Definitions:

The data are compiled in broad conformity with international practice and in accordance with definitions recommended by the United Nations for foreign trade statistics, specifically in accordance with the International Merchandise Trade Statistics
The collection of the data and processing of these statistical frameworks follow methodological guidelines that may not fully accord with the definitions and concepts of the UN’s International Merchandise Trade Statistics (IMTS). These differences are clearly articulated, as for example in the balance of payments data in the national accounts, adjustments are made to customs-based trade statistics to facilitate coverage in accordance with the IMF’s Balance of Payments Manual, fifth edition (BPM5). These include revaluation of the trade data on a free on board (F.O.B) basis, and corrections to the customs-based data to exclude goods associated with passive or active processing. A series of adjustments (supplementary trade items) allow for reconcilability of BOP and merchandise trade statistics. Monetary gold is excluded from foreign trade statistics but are included in the BOP.
Foreign trade data use the special trade system with its expanded meaning, which is the system used when registering goods that enter the country for the purpose of internal processing or leave it after internal processing, as well as goods that enter or exit a free industrial zone

The main source of imports and exports data are customs declarations.

General-use information about the foreign trade data is available on DOS website www.dos.gov.jo.
Detailed information is also available in Jordan's Trade and Investment Information System (JTIIS), which is hosted on the DOS website. JTIIS was designed to automatically-compile, standardize and publish some of the most updated national statistics on trade and investment according to internationally and nationally recognized standards. Statistics in the JTIIS are furnished and periodically updated by selected government entities that generate primary data on trade and/or investment in Jordan. All participating entities are committed to the advancement and institutionalization of trade and investment data collection, classification and publication in a manner that adheres to the standards and formats set forth by JTIIS.
